No I don't know many of the "bug" reports are "Note a bug". That's speculative and assuming that and risking have the same issues on my so far stable forum isn't worth the risk or cost for me.
I won't paste the rest of what you said but I don't know anyone who would spend the money and time investing in a forum without due diligence. And don't tell me "oh their out there", I'm sure there are, I just don't know anyone who would.
Simply take the time to read through many of them and don't concentrate on the simple title. Numerous ones that I reviewed will be targeted "As Designed" or "Not a bug".

I just don't know anyone who would.
Well congratulations... you do now.

I liked the interface of it when I came across it... and nope, didn't delve into the bug reports back in the 1.2 days. I just knew the developers had a good history from the vB days and struck out on their own because of "difference of opinion".

I'm surprised there's been no further comment on this as it clearly answers why there's been a lack of progress. Or is it that nobody has seen Kier's post?

Post #59 in the thread below which I can't seem to link directly.

Users had to pull teeth to find out one of the key developers (and looks like a few others) is no longer with the company... Terrible, just terrible communication.

So all those excuses for 2.3 delays such as Cloud and pandemic seem to be a bit flawed. The real reason development is at a standstill is a key developer has left, and the company just swept it under the rug.

Thanks for posting that link, I was unaware of this until now. And I see that it's not so much a lack of progress as it seems to be more a lack of communicating the progress being made. To me that's understandable as they have been busy working on updates and making sure as always that it's working as it should before release.

It's certainly polarising opinion. Sbj did a great job with some hard data to back up the lack of staff engagement which seems to have upset some people. I rarely post on XF these days, so many customisation questions go unanswered or get a smackdown from Brogan. The fact that Mike has left shows they're playing their cards close to their chest, but then they always have.

You have to wonder if, in an age of declining forums, Kier and Mike can earn shed loads more money coding elsewhere. I hate to say it, but I have a gut feeling the Xenforo journey is nearing the end, or nearing a potential sale.

And they've closed the thread :(

I did chuckle at the suggestion of them needing some PR people. Be careful what you wish for. PR people as a rule never give you a straight answer and even when the building is falling down around you will still tell you everything's fine. I'd rather they spent the money on product development.

Sad to read Brogan's post about what some members have done to him.

Yes they need to be working on new updates and bug fixes.
But it only take 5 minutes to write a short post...

"Just a heads up guys, Mike one of our developers left yesterday. We wish him well in the future."
Meanwhile we are contiuing to work on making Xenforo the best platform there is. and hope to release 2.3 in the next few weeks/months"

For the record, I didn't find it ethical to write on here (or elsewhere) when my thread over on XF was going.

But against my will they closed the thread. It didn't even survive 3 days.

What an irony. I (and some others) were complaining about communication issues and finally we established one and they cut it.

"The points have been made" it was said, like they know what in the future other members, who didn't have the chance to say anything, will say and what points they will make.

In private it was suggested that I take the discussion to a 3rd party if I want to continue it. So let's communicate through 3rd party sites now...

Ah, also the staff wants to enjoy their weekend instead of babysitting a thread it was said.

Anyway, in my opinion nothing will change with XF. Don't ever get your hopes up, don't ever count on things being done differently or quickly or anything. They didn't even respect us enough to tell that the leading developer left a long time ago.

They can and will run their company however they want it. That doesn't bother me. But what bothers me is that I really thought we had a "community" over there. You know, good old-fashioned people who stick together and talk things out, help each other. But I see now that the business establishment took over a long time ago. We were just people who provided free support in the forums.

I am not going berserk mode and threaten to leave or anything, I am just disappointed with them. For real. I thought they were better than this.

Good luck everybody, hope all of your sites blossom.

Exactly. At least we've had an update now and I hope they're more forthcoming in the future, but I'm not optimistic.

Kier made a nice post, but the features that people request and vote on are not implemented or say closed not going to implement.

This is sorted on most votes literally most are at least 5 years old, so what will you do know make an add-on that can do the same or wait. Because Xenforo is not giving clarity what will happen.

Kier also gave a comment about a roadmap, while it would help immensely its a inheritance from vBulletin and it will never be done. This can be two thing from the top of my head the first they do not know what they want second they do not care strictly speaking the third would be the combination of the two.

The mystery of why XF 2.2 did take and XF 2.3 is taking so long, is solved. It sucks for the XenForo team and us customers to loose so much knowledge, skill and manpower, but that's life. It seems that the expansion of the XF team with two part time devs was no real growth, but much needed help to fill a void. Especially considering the apparently successful XF Cloud project taking up a lot of time. I hope that XF is willing and able to attract much more staff to help speed things up and avoid slump. Hopefully they will find a few powerhouse developers with a similar skill and love for their work and the product as Xon and Bob.

I imagine it is hard to communicate early about loosing a founder. A driving force. I'm sure that if Kier would have told us a year ago, people would have been all doom and gloom about it. Placing the reputation and atmosphere at risk. I don't know if that was a consideration, but now with XF Cloud running and XF 2.3 coming up, its probably a much more positive situation to drop the news. Clearly XF is going forward. The world is not ending. Some good stuff is on the horizon for us. Hopefully XF 2.3 will be a big splash.

To those who feel resentment or the doom and gloom; please place yourself in someone else's shoes. Its not easy and there is never a perfect choice. People can only do their best and make the best of a situation.

You make a good point here and possibly it was a no-win situation for them. I suppose you could argue it was "need to know" and given there were other developers (Kier and Chris) it wasn't expected to have an impact other than to timescales, so why worry people?

It would have been nice for the community to give Mike a good send off though, and finding out later risks questions about transparency. Yep, no win ;)
