I started with vBulletin 3.5.4 circa 2006. The forum I started then is now on Xenforo.
Unfortunately I haven't had much time in the past several months to stir up member activity - so the community is kinda like this now

vB 2.x got me started. I remember the difficulties of adding plugins and how many code changes you had to make to files. Yikes!

But...it did spark my love for creating forum communities.

I first created a forum using Zetaboards. I still don't think it was all that bad, really, but I decided to use something I could host on my own server.

I first started out on Proboards and realized I wanted more control so moved to SMF 1.0 in 2005.

First forum software I used was Usenet and the original Compuserve. The first one I set up myself was vBulletin 3.

Wow, I actually started my first forum back in 2000/2001 on ezboard. Hated it from the moment we started it, quickly discovered vBulletin and that was that.

Probably a good topic to revive for some nostalgia ;) I started with Ezboards and Ikonboard 1.
20 years of looking at Matt M's code, not much has changed :p
Nearly all startup communities ended in cjb.net back then

Some interesting ones not listed in the menu would be Mercury Board, MyTopix and YaBB.
I remember YaBB having a niche following, YaBB SE was quite nice :geek:

Started with PHPBB, then moved to an early version of vB (just before 3 came out), then I tried Simple Machines cause I wanted a second forum but didn’t want to use a paid one. At one point I tried IPB but that was back in the day you could sell it, thought about going back to vB but it was after 4 had come out. Then I discovered XF in the very early days. Still using that one.

Aussie Arcade started on Yabb then VB3, 3.5, 4 and 5. Hoping to move to Invision or Xenforo in the next future.
