There are a number of examples of forums related to wikis that are hosted together, this webforum is an example. There are also forums for many Nintendo Independent Wikis, again login unification could be useful there.
Point of fact, I don't recall a single internet forum where an email address is not required for registration yet most NIWA wikis don't require it, even if they require a login to edit.
