Why would I care about what they want to do? It's their body, their life, their choice - not mine.

It is a disturbing thought.

Your statement seems to apply to all porn, which has been around for 100's of years and no one seems to be harmed by it.

Interesting, but it seems flawed because they're not able to track how much traffic and engagement that 22% of followers generate for the site. It could be much larger figure.

That 22% of people actively following porn could make up a larger number of the daily or monthly active users on the site compared with users who don't follow the NSFW content.

On a serious note, I think Tumblr will suffer "reputational risk" beyond the actual number of users who actually upload porn. Tumblr has always been know as the quirky, free wheeling social media network for the creative types, and a lot of users are magnifying the decision (whether true or not) as an attack on things like their freedom of expression, their creative selves, or their srxuality. It's truly not, but who really wants to argue with a rainbow flag-waving cis-confused millenial queer that no more naked bits is far different from an attack on her sexuality?

The cool kids will leave Tumblr.

If you don't like it, don't view it. I don't visit Tumblr, simple as that. There are many things I believe are immoral, but I don't force my moral views on others.

You can't dictate your morals to others unless you want a theocracy, and historically those have resulted in far worse, like killing people who don't fall in line with the official morality.

What about going 1 mile over the speed limit, it's not following the law and the Bible says to follow the law. Ever given into gluttony and had too much to eat? How about rage? Jealousy? Selfishness? Envy?

Pooh bear has been banned in China since this summer for becoming a meme online mocking the Prime Minister.

I read something that the religious right is mostly the one who is doing the stuff against nsfw content. Anyone remember back in the 1980's when they were targeting heavy metal music and dungeons and dragons for being bad and such?

Do we not ban porn on our own forums? It is not dictating our morals, rather it is maintaining dignified behavior in our communities.

I'm not imposing my view. I'm just surprised to find that nobody here seems to share my views on this and everyone seems to view porn as acceptable.

It should be in the right context. It’s a massive industry. There are plenty of forums built purely to host and discuss nsfw content, and some that allow it as a subset.

Tumblr allowed porn quite willingly for a very long to help build a strong community on their platform and grow to the size it’s currently at. Now it doesn’t suit them because they can’t control and moderate it adequately. This caused them issues due to the App Store, and now they feel they need to shut down a major aspect of their website, just because they dropped the ball in moderating it and Apple holds enough power for them to feel it’s worth cutting off that massive segment of their user base.

Time will tell if it was the right business decision - and if they can survive without it.

Nearly 100M users lots since the ban went into effect, and that was only in January, the amount may be larger now two months down the line.

That's about 20% of traffic.

A lot of tumblr users are now moved to Dreamwidth blogging network. Though many of those are blocked under spam. But I think people will find other places to post eventually.
