Its been almost a year since I submitted one of my sites and it hasn't be added yet, I've pretty much given up on them.
You obviously do not get it either.cbp said:You obviously are still failing to understand what DMOZ is about. You are expecting a service from DMOZ that you are not even paying for (hence the quip about asking for a refund, so hopefully it would sink it) and you also failed to read the warning of the moderater at the start of this thread.
That is a shame you know. I bet your category is full of geocities hosted websites too isn't it?talkhomebusiness said:Its been almost a year since I submitted one of my sites and it hasn't be added yet, I've pretty much given up on them.
If you new what DMOZ is about, then you would have read the social contract and from that you would see it is doing exactly what it set out to do....it just has not yet revewed your site in the time frame that you expect. Where did DMOZ promise you it would do that?Stop telling me it is not a damn listing service and start realizing I know that. I can still say my piece and my piece is that it is not doing what it is suppose to do. It is not doing what you claim it is doing.

Grab a beer... or just buy Budweiser itself... cause its gonna be awhileshaon said:I have been waiting for a month now to get listed.....no luck yet
That is my whole point. While you do not care and move on I don't find it that easy because I feel it is wrong for him to go around puffing his chest about DMOZ when it is clearly flawedroscoe36 said:It is what it is. I don't understand why people get worked about it. As I posted earlier in this thread, DMOZ is irrelevant (to me). My traffic says two of my sites are relevant resources, the size of one of my communities says that it is relevant, and yet DMOZ won't bother to review relevant sites, making it the FLAWED DIRECTORY.
I know it doesn't owe me anything, and it's free, but if the intention is to build a useful directory, isn't it logical that the most useful resources be at least looked at?
Ho hum. DMOZ = not important. Life rolls on...
Exactly how I feel.PalePhoenix said:Personally, I do not like the idea of the power they wield, the sheer monopoly of it--nor the fact that I do not feel I can speak openly and honestly--anywhere, not just TAZ--about my experiences with them. For the most part, any past issue I've had is no longer a concern, but there were few recourses to resolve them and it took nearly a year just to get our site name to appear properly in certain locations.
Though I appreciate the work they do, and the mounting backlog of responsibilities, perhaps if they did not operate as they do presently, their own lives would be easier. They are petty, impenetrable, and hopelessly bureaucratic, but what they do is vital. I say this having tried to help them and been denied. That, in and of itself, is a form of "cutting off one's nose to spite its face."
It sounds like cbp is affirming the decreasing relevance of DMOZ -- and rightly so, its site has been down for months. It's hard to expect anything run by AOL to remain relevant for long, and DMOZ seems to be on its way out of existence.Who cares?
Not sure why you get so worked up about this. Submit and forget. You get listed or you don't. Life goes on. DMOZ link or not, sites still do well.
What BS. DMOZ has not and is not down!!! Where are you getting your information from? Due to technical problems, its not been possible to suggest a site for a few months. Editors are editing and adding sites. The only people upset that you can't currently suggest a site are webmasters who seem to be still under the mistaken impression that DMOZ is some sort of free listing service (which its not).and rightly so, its site has been down for months.
Editors got the ability to edit back a few weeks ago. Still, DMOZ was not down as claimed above....um... editors haven't been able to do anything in months either. It's only very recently that the editing tools have been made re-available.
It is not, presently, as I pointed out. It WAS, meaning: If you typed the address into your browser, nothing came up. I'm not really sure what your definition of 'down' might be, but "Not Available to the Public" pretty much constituted the same thing for the past few months. There is no point in insinuating otherwise.cbp said:DMOZ has not and is not down!
Oh, but this particular thread will never really GET old. If something has authority, yet operates without transparency or accountability, then it deserves absolutely every sling and arrow chucked its way.cbp said:Why bump this really old thread?
