Anyone heard of Sngine? It's a wicked social networking script very similar to Facebook. It's affordable too. I paid $69 for it! :D

Just curious.

Agreed. I was also looking at Social Engine 4, but it seems outdated, and is like $400! :(

The question isn't what platform, instead, how would you build the userbase and market it
Not sure what you mean. As for marketing, that's up to each Admin. The script itself has had well over 2500 sales, myself proudly included.

$69 for a lifetime of updates sounds a bit too good to be true.

Not confidence inspiring, but maybe that's just my cynicism?

$69 for a lifetime license, with support and updates for 6 months. Then $40 to renew, or simply keep it as is. 500+ 5 out of 5 star reviews tells plenty. I run it myself and it's awesome. Best independent networking script on the market, and I've tried quite a few.

Both are good (yes WoWonder is more expensive but it has more features), but both lack the most important feature. Usergroup permissions. Everybody can do everything. And I'm wondering why both coders (have communicated with them), they accept the fact that usergroup permissions is a really important feature, but none of them has still decided to add it.

So, as for me, I've just the scripts sitting on my HD.

Actually from 100+ scripts that I've bought since 2011, I'm using just 2

ChrisTERiS I do agree this an important feature that I hope is implemented in a future version. As for now, I still love the script (after using Social Engine 3.x and 4.x for years). :D

From coding side, is not a big deal to add Usegroup permissions. The heart should be just a function with a parameter the section. 10 lines of code, max 30 if the script supports additional usergroups. But I think that main problem is that they must add other features. eg Memberships to upgrade users etc. Maybe this is what they want to avoid.

And yes, it can works fine with the current style "Everybody posts everywhere". But this is for small (let's say local) communities. Don't even think to try it in a large community. You'll end up with thousands of Groups and Pages with just one member. The owner :) .... Let's face the truth. Same happens with FB. How many of the Groups/Pages have really good content. Most of them are 5-10 members who found a place to say Goog morning and Goodnight to each other and what they cook for lunch :) ......... If it was a paid feature not even 10% of them should be exist.

Sngine apparently has the ability for usergroups/permissions, but you have to code it yourself. I found a support post explaining how to do it.

The script already has an "upgrade" feature where members can be promoted to "Pro" either by paying or if the Admin upgrades them.

With clear tongue, this is just an advertisement. If you're so familiar even with the hidden features of this script, and if, as your wrote before, you're using it for years, I don't think that you really stand on other members opinions, something normal but only when someone plans to buy something.

"my 2c" as you use to say in your country :)
