We're getting an update to the server tonight - hopefully it will fix these issues with our ElasticSearch.

Not sure of the time yet but I'll post an update when I hear.

Time to bite the proverbial bullet and just update everything (ES, XF, XF addons, etc) instead of trying to keep the current environment chugging along.

ElasticSearch needs a lot of RAM, or else it gets killed by the OOM killer.

I've successfully run ElasticSearch on large sites with a fraction of the ram recommended. It just requires some tuning, which for some insane reason isn't done out of the box.
