PHP, Perl or Python: What is the difference?

Which One Should You Use?

Each of the languages has a slightly different user in mind. If you are still trying to learn the basics of coding or just want something for a web environment then PHP is probably the right choice for you. Make sure to get yourself a good PHP editor to help you along the way. If you want an option that can be used for a lot of different purposes and don't want to feel constrained by the exact phrasing, you might find you enjoy using Perl. If you already have a foundation in a coding language but want even more options with prototyping then you should probably choose Python.

PHP is widely used for web applications, but not much else that I know about. Python is used widely for all sorts of things (e.g. science, education, software development), but not as much for web applications as is PHP. I get the impression Perl isn't used quite as much these days.

So if you're looking for a skill that will give you a job and put food on the table, it's either PHP or Python.
