This link to their home page would probably be hidden in mobile like the other info there so that part of the argument doesn't hold up :D

Xon has a custom profile permissions add-on which should help with something like this in regards to allowing specific users to link their home page. I'm actually thinking more of displaying a link to their showcase items there where we'd ideally want the majority of the users' site promotions to go on.
home page url is more important to me than most of what displays on mobile platform ... up to and including avatars

Food for thought - what if those badges/links actually led to an internal taz page where the site in question is showcased or reviewed?
A direct link doesnt do owned sites justice enough and they could benefit from more elaborate introductions and maybe discussion among peers.

the majority of the time people are talking about their own sites and the majority of time no one has any idea what they are talking about

just like 2nd street is the most popular street in the usa

so is the second post here asking

“we need a link to your site to help you”
The second post would just turn to, hey you need to fill out your profile home page URL before we can help you. How often does this come up? Is it a problem I'm missing on here?

For what it's worth I'm not opposed to the idea, but so far the reasons given aren't reasons why I'd actually add it in :D. Also, you know you can just check your friends profile to see their home page right? Speaking of which, we should definitely look into stripping the ability to post links in the About Me section

With the 2.x upgrade, I want to sort of isolate where communities are posted. Currently, we have members posting their forums in various forum nodes, showcase, reviews, profile posts, home page, about me section and signature :D. Not their fault, just no rules in place to prevent that really. The profile bit could link to their "Communties" aka their personal showcase listings.

I completely agree. As things stand it's a bit of a scatter gun approach which doesn't really do justice to member's wanting to showcase their sites. I would like to see a single, prominent area set aside for this, assuming members want to share.

Personally I'm not convinced an avatar/post bit link is necessarily the right place because forums are fluid and it may well be that a member wants to bump their site. That said it could work if it's tied into the notification system.

i'm not a fan of the showcase here

the old vbsetup showcase design was way better and he even promoted a monthly winner

just a url field

i think vb.org has entire url under avatar on legacy theme .... wasnt it? maybe it was called “kit and kabootle” or “kitchen sink” come on someone here has to remember...

come to think of it vb3 ... the legend that birthed all these kick start style forum softwares .. had some features that are lacking from todays softwares.

I miss the days on forums before facebook and cellphones ruined everything

I dont think so, at least thats not how I read it.

No one seems to have missed it in however many years its not existed here as a feature, so its probably not that important.

but i want this to be a yes

maybe ill start a poll

Would you like to be able to see the sites people are talking about when they ask questions about their sites?

Yes
No

seems really silly to even debate this, whats the point of an admin forum if everyone is ashamed of their own websites and people can't access others websites to help them?

Do you expect a doctor to diagnose your illness without giving them any of your symptoms?

Yes, assuming they are willing. (Most of the sites I'm associated with are commercial and in general I'm not willing).

I agree we need to be doing a better job highlighting member's sites but I see it as going a lot further than what you have suggested.
