The principle is simple really. Apply one or more search engine optimization techniques and reap the rewards in terms of more efficient (1) crawling, and (2) indexing; and better (3) ranking. Regardless of whatever other forum building activities you are participating in, the SEO will do its job.
Simple? Or simplistic?

SEO forums, blogs, and articles are filled with classic examples of superstitious thinking based on just such logic.

"I just added AdSense and my site went from PR0 to PR3!"

"I just added AdSense and my site went from page 1 on Google to nowhere to be found!"

"I just redesigned my site to make it W3C validated and my PR increased!"

...and a thousand other examples you could find by a quick scan of any webmasters forum.

Correlation? or coincidence? Either way it does not compute to cause and effect.

The pretentious among us know the phenomenon as "post hoc ergo propter hoc". ;)
:D

And for those who didn't take or have forgotten their Latin, [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_hoc_ergo_propter_hoc"]Post hoc ergo propter hoc - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:MontreGousset001.jpg" class="image"><img alt="MontreGousset001.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/45/MontreGousset001.jpg/76px-MontreGousset001.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/4/45/MontreGousset001.jpg/76px-MontreGousset001.jpg[/ame]...

Well, seems we are out of topic, almost all vbulletin forums have PR assigned to archive pages but not mine.. not sure why though...

1. That's not true. The only archive page that has any PR for my forum is the archive index.

2. It's a GOOD thing. It means that Google is indexing your main pages, not the archive pages. That's (normally) exactly the way you want it.

Yeah, this is the way I want it, I myself do not give any importance to PR these days, thanks for your time minstrel :)
