Possible but still your forum will need a moderator and It can be possible that genuine and good content will be marked as a bad content by users.

Quora is a good example, There is no any moderators are present but If you post something bad then it will be automatically collapsed and If user report about content then they can even remove it however Its look like a 99% automated system.

You can use similar features in your forum.

Topix is ranked 733 in the world. I'd say they're doing OK.
There's much more to life than "ranking". Hell, for sheer number of visitors I'm sure most porn sites get way more than the majority of "valid" web sites. So, I guess that means we need to start working on having porn on our sites to be "important and ranked up there"?

No. That just means they have tons of visitors and probably tons of income to go with it.

Those are valid websites, but your point is not.

Plenty of legit websites without tits.

Probably not due to trolls unless it is a free hosted private forum.

But if your forum gets big it will be bound to get trolls. trolls like attention and if there are many members they will be attracted to the forum to troll.

I am on a forum about a mobile game that started with rather incompetent moderation and ended up without any by now. Double posts, insults, frustration due to unanswered complaints about bugs in the game...
Could it work? I personally don't think so. You could work with minimal moderation, a soft touch, but without it doesn't work in my eyes.

A lot of forum spam and spam, in general, is done manually these days, so it's impossible to prevent it before it happens.

I suppose you could design some sort of "blocking" system where a user manage a list of users he doesn't want to be in communication with or see any of their content.

There's no way a forum could run 100% on automation. You can set up scripts and plugins but a little bit of human work is always going to be required!

One solution... use an actively licensed copy of IPS with IPS Spam protection. Basically it checks the IP of the registratant against a database of other people who were reported to IPS for spamming. Works like a charm.

We've not had one successful spam post get onto our forum since we moved to XF 2 years ago. Those that have made it as far as the moderation queue have mostly been sleepers that registered on our previous platform.

Due to issues with some folk not getting their registration verification email in the past & to make registration as slick as possible I've even switched the verification stage off without any problems. Marvelous!
