Interview with David Chapman - Founder of Zoints

I'm very pleased to present this interview with David Chapman - Friend, TAZ Staff Member, Big Board Admin, Founder of Zoints. :)

==================================================

Can you give us a brief bio?

On December 14th, 1977, a happy Southern California woman delivered a baby boy who grew up to be an incredibly attractive, brilliant, and charismatic man. The next day, I was born, and named David Nathaniel Chapman. At age three I told a doctor I had a brain tumor, and life has been quite interesting ever since! I have had quite the eclectic job history, including experience as a professional baseball player, equity trader, technical analyst, maximum security jail guard, and founder of 5 different companies. I have a hard time sitting still. ;)

What is your educational background?

School and I have NEVER gotten along. I literally ran away from pre-school when I was 4. My parents had to drag me in screaming and crying to elementary school almost every day. In high school, I had over a 60% absence rate. College? Hahah. It is physically uncomfortable for me to sit in a classroom. Anything I've ever been interested in I've had to teach myself.

My father had his PhD in physiology so there were interesting books around the house growing up, but there were limitations (I'm 28, so I lived in the era before everything was on the net). I've always been a voracious reader when a subject interests me. By age eleven I had pored over my Dad’s PDR (I was a hypochondriac by age 3), as I thought I wanted to become a doctor. At age 19, I taught myself to trade equities and perform fundamental and technical analysis. Once I realized that business was of interest to me, I put myself through MIT's Sloan School of Management via their OpenCourseWare project. The Internet has been truly liberating for me in that capacity. It has given me access to information and opportunities that I would not have been afforded otherwise.

I'll never be the smartest or most educated guy in the world, but I'm content because I know how to surround myself with, and listen to, those who are. My goal is to go into any room with Zoints employees in it and be the stupidest person in there. That way I have to ask a lot of questions, which causes those with incredible intellectual capacities to utilize their gifts.

What do you consider as your accomplishments up to this point?

I don't like to talk about past...

David Chapman is my hero. Even though everyone knows he loves hippos. We want to know the secrets of his life!

Everyone should try Zoints out. I've been a member at David's main site (which turned into a guinea pig for Zoints :p ) for about 1 and 1/2 years now. The forums are great, and Zoints makes the internet a lot better in every way.

TGO FTW!

I'm quoting this for two reasons.

1. To showcase your "missed off" :D

2. Nutcase huh? Well, if this is insanity, then I don't want to be sane. ;) Heheh. Guilty as charged on the hugs though. You know you want one.

Great interview, loved it.

Don't know David that well, or for a long time but i will say i am very impressed by both his attitude to the online forum community and the way he conducts 'business'.

Wish you all the luck with Zoints, although i don't think its needed :)

Yeah. David Chapman is awesome.

I've been on LWS for a year. Zoints since it began.

Thanks to that man, I've made about 20-30 good friends.

I've actually talked to him a couple of times (doubt he remembers), and he is quite the amicable guy.

This is a great interview and I pray that Zoints sky rockets to fame and fortune.

$5.00 please. Actually, just donate it to eff.org.

Hahah. Well, I threw a couple little jokes in, but yeah, i'm quite a bit more serious when it comes to Zoints :) If it was just me that would get hurt if Zoints failed, then no big deal. But when you have a lot of people counting on you, then you need to take things more serious.

David, I hope you're going to clean up my desk after I spewed hot coffee all over when I read this. :(

On a more serious note, great interview.

Hi Kathy,

I hope the dog days have become a little less doggish for you this week :)

In 1996 I was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks out of highschool. I graduated and a couple days later was on a plane to AZ. I played a short season of rookie ball and stunk. They thought enough of me despite my poor stats to send me to Instructional League where I kicked all kinds of butt. I then went to spring training where my body fell apart and ended up having to medically retire. I never made it to the majors.

I also have the bragging rights of being the first to beat Junior Spivey in a prank war :D (you don't want to know how).

Not once do I believe you told us loyal members on LWS about this.:tisk:

However, I can forgive you since you had that horrible bout with the devil.

Cheers on people asking about that....:didi:,
