Interview with Adam Kinder - Developer of Invision Gallery

Adam Kinder is the developer of Invision Power Services' Gallery add-on for Invision Power Board. He was kind enough to do a short interview with me.

Can You Give a Brief Bio?

I'm 21 years old, born and raised in southern West Virginia. I lived in northwest Pennsylvania for 3 years before moving to Virginia with my girlfriend Christy to begin working for IPS.

What are your favorite books? Movies? Music? Games?

I enjoy everything that Elizabeth Haydon has ever written, and I'm also a big fan of R. Scott Bakkar and his Prince of Nothing series.

For movies, I'm big on the Scarface, Casino, Goodfellas type movies. Oh, and of course, The Godfather.

My musical tastes are pretty varied, ranging from the likes of Necrophagist and other extreme death metal bands, to Enya and Yngwie Malmsteen's classical stuff.

In gaming, I'm a huge FPS and RPG fan. I'm currently playing Eve Online
and a lot of Day of Defeat.

What is your educational background?

I graduated from a small town high school in 2002 and was accepted to Penn State University. I studied psychology, computer science, and eventually majored in Business Administration. I left Penn State at the beginning of 2005 due to financial reasons.

How long have you been developing? Have you worked on any projects
befor joining IPS?

I've been tinkering with computers and programming since '95, but it wasn't until '99 that I really got serious about programming. I started out with C/C++, and eventually added PHP, Python, Perl and Java to the list. As with any developer, my various projects have been in a constant state of rewrite/'Oh thats cool, lets try this..' for seven years :p

I worked on quite a few projects before joining IPS, although the only noteworthy ones would be some tinkering with Livejournal and Mozilla, and I was the lead developer/system administrator for Square Network for several years.

How long have you been working with IPS? Do you enjoy it?

I've been with IPS since June of 2005 and I've loved every minute of it. My goal in life was to get paid doing what I loved, and I finally achieved that.

Invision Gallery 2.0 is a great product. Do you enjoy working on it?

Gallery 2.0 gave me the opportunity to learn about IPB's various API's and layers better. I had customized the 1.3 and 2.0 versions of IPB before...
