Is there a specific game that you have expertise in, and that your site shows? This can be a reason why someone would want to visit your site instead of another.

You need to have categories for the gaming platforms. Because that way the search engine can filter the content meant for specific platform. All the game threads in one category would be bad for SEO.

If I was a gamer, I'd go YouTube, easier to build an audience from my experience and then promote the forum through videos and live streams. Just a thought.

It's good to invest in content, for example, created subforums for a specific game and write some FAQ, Tutorials which well-optimized in SEO might bring you traffic.
