Another one.

Are they pushing whatever idea they can come up with just to get re-elected?

The concept of COPPA kind of aggravates me. Kids can just blow past it and so it serves no real effective purpose. Parents maybe should be responsible for their kids activities. Cable tv or netflix doesn't have COPPA - why do websites?

It does serve a purpose. It teaches kids to give fake info to marketers, an important skill for them to use throughout their lives :p

I am not sure COPPA is even applicable, if a site doesn't collect their email or any other potentially identifying data. I may be mistaken there however. It is however an obstacle on just about every other site (as they do collect that data), but it is one they deal with very easily.

The U.K. had the idea of using face recognition to detect someone's age, particularly for their "Porn ID" system, but it is very easy to get around it and it is also very bad for privacy. If there is anything someone might want to keep private, it is likely to be whatever fetishes they may have.
