Hello Admin friends,

This is a sequence of my previous thread, you guys can read about here:

https://theadminzone.com/threads/in-need-of-tazs-members-expertize-the-xf-resource-manager-wordpress-situation.151053/

So, after some weeks using Bob's AMS on my live website, i can share some experiences with you guys and hoping to help others administrators if they are willing to implement a article/news system inside XenForo.

A background story: I run a small news website along with a Forum system for 3 years. My first Forum collapsed (MyBB) after a bad upgrade that i lost everything, mostly because my lack of experience. And if anyone is on the track to open a new Forum and don't have the money to do, i can totally recommend MyBB.

In september/2019 my new XF Forum is making one year of life. About some millions posts, almost 10k registered users and 100k followers on my Twitter page. My site is growing step by step.

My main site was basically all controlled by Wordpress, using a Drudge-like theme. Very basic, objective and functional. The Drudge-like theme was a personal decision considering the huge success that Drudge makes in EUA. This theme have a strong personality.

The problem is: in Brazil people don't like ugly things. For real. They seen to don't understand the proposal of a Drudge-like theme. And that's ok. Market is market, niche is niche and i have to respect my costumer base. This is what looks my ex-main-page:

upload_2019-7-13_1-4-59.png
A typical main page in Drudge-style of my website. Recent news on top, archive after the menu.
Works great. Functional, effective, without any shenanigans. The planning to release my website dates from 2014. In 2016 i was able (financially) to make it happen.
I receive a lot of advice from different people (including my friendly competitors) to seek a new theme:
- "If you want to be credible, you need a new website"

Well, he had a point. Brazilian people loves colorful things. For the six months i was looking for a new theme because of this but bumped in a wall every time.

...and every point of the way, every theme that i looked for my purpose (news/magazine), every single one have the same old problem: they all look the same old boring thing. Just go for ThemeForest and see with your own eyes. Total lack of personality. I can't explain this on a objective way, but you get a theme like this and is gonna look almost exactly with your competitor. I cannot find (or afford a professional) a premium customized design.

Mostly because i don't like Wordpress. Yes, is the biggest, most used and more powerful CMS system in the world, sharing more than 75% of the market. But, so what? I don't use mostly of the functions. I have a lot of plugins to make things work the way i want. I want a system just to post my articles, with some categories, with SEO integration and that's it.

So, I decided to go full XenForo, even for my daily news articles. Well, is a great system, easy for specialists to modify when i need it and in that way i can converge all my readers from the site to my Forum.

After reading and searching a lot about how this can happen in XF, administrators from TAZ recommended the Bob's Add-on for article management.

Well, was the best thing that i did in the story of my Forum. For real. Look my main page now:

upload_2019-7-13_16-36-49.png

How much better it is right now?

The Bob's AMS Add-on was a perfectly fit for my needs. My user base is loving and saying a lot of good stuff about the new system. The main page looks like a pro thing, specially the article page.

I can create categories, create thread prefixes, give user permissions to publish their own texts and so much more. Now i can convert my readers to my Forum and vice-versa. The ranking is going better in the SEO aspects and even the Ads are a slightly better than previously, where both sites are separate from each other (Main site + Forum). Now my site is THE forum.

So, I'm here just to share my toughs about this. I really can recommend AMS for everyone looking for a solution like this. The add-on is constructed in a very professional way and the support from Bob is impeccable. He replies to you in one day, tops. I don't see any bugs or errors caused by the add-on, is lightweight and my users love it.

Now I'm in the process to buy a new theme (UIX 2 from ThemeHouse) to give my users the choice of a more clean design instead of the actual. I really like this actual theme, but some people prefer a more simplistic view. Ok, is their choice again and i have to respect it.

My next step is to implement a Wiki inside my Forum (with ThemeHouse add-on) to create some kind of "central of information" about some public figures.

In the next days I'm going to publish here in TAZ a big review of every single add-on that i use in my Forum (almost 15~20), in a hope to help every administrator to decide what is essential or not.

See you guys next time and thanks to be here with me until the end of this big thread.

As I suggested in the other thread, the RM would have been useless. You wouldn't have gotten half the things AMS can provide.

You can't do wrong with Bob. He is a treat and he deserves every praise we can give him. I personally have to thank him aswell for how he treated me. There are two senior devs left in the scene who provide excellent service. One is Xon, the other one Bob.

I wish XF would hire them or buy out their addons and integrate them into XF (of course if those devs would be willing to).
The love for detail, the love to polish out things, is what makes them great besides their excellent support.

If you compare AMS to 8way then AMS would be a Lamborghini and 8way VW Golf GTi.

AMS is not unlike any other add-on if it could run standalone it would be a fully functional CMS for starters. Its big it has more settings then you can expect and if you search for me in an AMS topic i have screen shot AMS settings (its now even bigger). Setting is i think more then XFMG and RM combined. You can’t even compare IP.Pages with AMS the only thing that IP.Pages is good in is databases if AMS would have that then it would be on top in Xenforo and IPC. It very powerful AMS but with this much power under you you will need a good developer and someone that can support his add-on and Bob does both and he is very good at it.

I posted this in 2017:
Thank you for implementing our 524 suggestions!
This website may seem a little odd to the onlooker because its filled with implemented suggestions that seem to come out of nowhere.

However, we (myself and a number of others) ask a lot of Bob and he implements an amazing number of suggestion with a speed and dedication I have not seen in the XF scene.
Addons like Showcase, Article Management System and others are in continuous development and refined to the polished feature full addons they are now. This will continue without any doubt. So far I am counting at least 524 of our suggestions implemented already. Its crazy but true.

I would probably not be using xenforo anymore if not for this superb quality, dedication, development and support offered by Bob.
The number of implemented suggestions has risen significantly since then.

how does this (AMS) compare to the one 8way run do, https://xenforo.com/community/resources/xf2-8wr-xenporta-2-portal-pro.6023/

as I am looking at getting that one but not 100% sure yet.
I don't own a XenPorta license, but here is my take on it.

To be fair, Jaxel's one has also good amount of features. Probably not as much as Bob ones, but compared to the XF scene his stuff is decent. Of course comparing him to one of the best makes him look bad.

What makes the huge difference is the reliability (support).

Jaxel seem to be one of those, who provide bigger addons and unique addons. The problem is, his support is not average or low, it is almost non-existent. So, once you buy his addon, then you are on your own. You have to figure it out yourself. If you need explaining or maybe some small custom tweaks, you will get no answer. Also, although he tends to fix bugs, it can take him a lot of time to acknowledge them. You never know if he got your report and when the next update will come.

So, if his addon in this state is perfect for you, then you can't do much wrong if you know what you do. You get a lifetime license. Which brings me to my next point.

Jaxel's addons are "what you see is what you get" type of ones. So, if they fulfill your needs, perfect, if not, then you have a problem. You won't get new features, hence the lifetime licenses. Sometimes he feels like it and dishes out new small features, but there are no plans behind them or a thing you can track or suggest etc.

On the other hand, Bob's support is excellent. He will explain to you every little single thing, if you need it. He always takes his time to address each question and problem. He is very helpful and friendly. If all goes "good", like you encounter no problems, you are happy as it is, then you won't understand how important good support is. Once you encounter problems or you are unhappy with things, then you understand how valuable good support is.

The other point is, that Bob keeps releasing new releases periodically. Of course not every suggestion might be added, but you can be sure that he keeps progressing his addons, hence the renewal fee. But compared to other devs and renewal fees, he really earns it and deserves it to the penny.

So, 1 product has reached its maximum, the other one gets higher and higher. One dev has 0 support, the other one top tier. You have to decide for yourself what you need. With Bob, you can't do wrong, with Jaxel, you might be doing wrong.

I do some research before buying anything and i try to be fair even with small developers. So i can't give a much very grounded opinion on XenPorta 2 because i don't own a license, but i can talk why i did not buy in the end of this post.

Note that i didn't even know Bob's services before creating my original thread and sbjsbj helped a lot to find, mostly because his 2.x add-ons are not showed in XenForo RM.

So, what i did? Contacted Bob with a PM saying: "Please, convince me to buy your add-on" - well, he really done it. He did not know me in the first place and offered me a very long and a complete reply about my questions, giving me the possibility to run a demo to see what is behind all the magic from his page.

With rare exceptions, Bob was one of the only developers who treated me professionally, like a real client, answering every question that i have. And for real, there is only 3 or 4 developers in all XenForo scene who reply like this. And i can tell, just by his PM reply that AMS is the real deal.

After installed and configured i try to understand everything. The options page is huge and you can have a articles page in a modular system, controlled all by widgets. The simple option on this was going to a "standard" page, controlled by his options. My case (as you can see in screenshot) are in a modular system and i can customize everything, with very basic template modifications too if you need it.

I did need some support after this and Bob responded my questions in less than a day after opened the thread, resolving all my requests, with tutorials and long explanations. Well, i cannot want more from him. Like some others users her are telling: he implement every good suggestion that he receive, just read his Forum and some testimonials around here about the product use.

Is bizarre to see how complete, deep and powerful his add-on is. Is like a complete CMS solution, competing even with Wordpress for example, in my humble opinion. And for a news site like mine, i really need it a complete and professional solution. Well, i was in Wordpress for the entire time in my site, with all the "power" inside, and now i replaced WP with AMS and I'm not looking back anymore. Why use WP if i have a complete system in my hands, giving me even better options without the need for add-ons, modifications and plugins? All my site is running on XenForo now, thanks to Bob's add-on, sharing the same resources from my Forum, no need for different logins or different layout modifications.

And why i didn't buy the competitors solutions? Well, just enter in each add-on page and go for discussion. You can see why.

Where can we find this add-on? The resource center at Xenforo only has a 1.X version and the demo board has no link for it.

Registration isn't closed there. I guess you are confusing the public forum with his private development forum which is limited to his premium add-on customers.
Quite right I see now I was only viewing his demo site!

I registered today no issues, thanks for all the comments it's helped. I have used 8wayruns before and agree while a great product support wasn't great so will be going with AMS this time round and give that a go.

Cheers all.

RIP. I am a customer of Bob's since the Showcase beta, I really wish I had bought AMS over Resource Manager as RM is now permanently tied to my XenForo renewals and AMS does everything RM does for my forum, but so much more. In my defence, AMS was in private beta at the time so it wasn't an option, but I definitely recommend it if you are looking to add CMS-like functionality to your forum. Plus support from Bob is the best, he is super responsive on his forums, and he has already implemented some of my suggestions into the plugin in the past.

FYI, you can request to remove it from your license. But in case you would need the addon in the future, you will have to purchase it again with the full price.

How does AMS compare to Resource Manager? Isn't one an article system and the other for having a place to sell/download/upload different addons, or what ever your site offers?

Sorry I haven't been around awhile but AMS probably has a feature to do the same I'm just unaware and would like to know more.

In the same case of XenPorta or other similar add-ons, i don't won a license for XF RM, but i almost bought it.

I was lucky enough to create my first thread asking about the same things and many users here in TAZ helped me to find the ideal add-on for CMS and for sure, is Bob's add-on.

I can recommend you to see my thread about this same subject:

https://theadminzone.com/threads/in-need-of-tazs-members-expertize-the-xf-resource-manager-wordpress-situation.151053/

...and read this thread with care too.

About the selling stuff on AMS, I'm managed to create some categories with "restricted" access, just for "premium" users. Is very good product to offer to the community. If you have some "top premium article writers" who want to sell their articles, you can create a User Upgrade just for reading this premium categories.

Is not the ideal solution, but works fine.

And if you really need something more appropriate, I'm sure Bob can make a customization service for you. The support from Bob is incredible, nothing like i ever see in XenForo base.

My XenPorta install...

I've been of a fan Jaxel's script since it was introduced in XF1 days. I was one of the few who weren't furious with him for whatever reason. XenPorta is an EXCELLENT, feature-rich CMS type system. I love it.

Really nice work you've done with Bob's add-on palhanow
Cheers.
