This is kinda a branch off my thread Thoughts on a conspiracy forum

I'm exploring (for the first time) not using a classic TLD like .com or .net. This time going with something a little... different. Buying a .WTF domain...

Now, I know that content is king. The most important part about the website is the content, not necessarily the domain extension. Although, I am worried about ranking issues. Google said, they do no give TLDs like .com or .net a better rank than .me or .ninja, as such they treat them like gTLDs.

I wonder who much truth is in that? Doing a quick search, you see little to no .ninja domain (for example).

Anyways I like the idea of .wtf. It fits my niche, I just wouldn't want to get a domain like that and Google ending up kicking me to the curb...

You don't see them in searches because they still aren't widely used. Needle in a haystack.

Go for it.

I started a motorcycle forum with .bike

Zero issues, great ranking in Google.

No apologies needed. Hope things are well.

On a side note, keep in mind people's unfamiliarity with new TLDs while marketing (digital or otherwise).

For example, you may want to retain/use "www" in links/banners/images.

It may not be immediately clear to the average user what "conspiracy.wtf" means, but "www.conspiracy.wtf" helps clarify without having to think about it. Especially on a sticker or t-shirt down the line.

Just something to consider.
