As a forum migration service, we do lots of migrations and always check the news in forum world.
The last major news is the new wpForo 2 major release. They have done a really great job!
For those who don't know, wpForo is a free WordPress forum plugin: https://wpforo.com/
Here is the release summary: https://wpforo.com/community/wpforo-announcements/wpforo-2-0-1-is-released/

I like the new forum layouts which come built-in with wpForo plugin (classic forum layout, simplified, threaded and Q&A):

One of the forum layouts is a Q&A layout, so you can create different type of forums in the one forum using different forum layouts, the Q&A ayout can be used for support forums:

Oh Woooowwwwwwwww.

And here I am working on bridging my Wordpress blog with Xenforo. I think I might need to seriously rethink this now. This WPForo update is a HUGE upgrade to what they had before. And it would take a lot of the headache out of trying to bridge the two platforms.

But as far as I am concerned Word Press is just one big Spam Magnet!
I dont even have it, and yet my site is attacked daily by many bots trying to look for word press loopholes

That top background image for catgeories looks very good

I wonder if that could be done on Xenforo?
Would it slow loading down?

I don't think it'll slow down. The BG image can be optimized up to 5-10KB if you use services like tinyjpg.com

Wpforo does the best job of looking modern and still looking like a forum.
Yes, I agree. wpForo is looking for the most modern introducing of discussion boards. That's why it comes with four possible forum layouts. And you can use them together in the same forum. So the one category of forums is introduced with Threaded Layout, another with Q&A Layout or with a classic forum layout like the Simplified one. You can see the mix of all layouts on wpForo community: https://wpforo.com/community/

Forum to Forum Migration Services
We help to migrate from old forum boards to modern softwares like XenForo, vBulletin, phpBB, MyBB, bbPress, wpForo and others.
I don't get how you "help to migrate from old forums" when on your site you state you do not offer support but only answer questions without solutions.

Is there any support for this tool?

Forum to Forum migration is a large project. We’re sorry but we cannot support issues arisen during your forum migration. We only support questions related how to use and configure this tool in wpForo support forum. We don’t support the result of migration. This kind of large work is out of our support. In case the migration result of this tool doesn’t satisfy you, you should contact to professional forum migration services for custom migration. We only recommend gConverter or ProfProjects services for such projects. They have already done hundreds of forum to wpForo migration projects with the best result.

Understood, thanks for clearing that up. I still don't understand why someone offers a conversion tool yet no support for what they provide. Who would trust using such a tool? I wouldn't, I'd probably just start from scratch.

That's a free tool, and it works in 99% without any issue. So it is worth to try.
At the moment the Go2wpForo Tool only support the following migrations, other migrations can be done by our services:
  • bbPress to wpForo
  • phpBB to wpForo
  • SMF to wpForo
  • MyBB to wpForo
  • Joomla Kunena to wpForo

Is the tool free? If so I’m not seeing how support is a sustainable proposition.

Free or not, any lack of support is a red flag for me.
I don't see why so much interest to the forum migration tool. There is not a lack of support for the migration tool. The developers always support that tool, here are the tons of topics and helps they provide: https://wpforo.com/community/other-forums/

So they do support for Go2wpForo migration tool. When they say we don't support the migration tool, they mean the cases which require custom migration, when the source or target forum databases are changed or so... There are many cases that require custom coding and custom database manipulation. I hope it's clear now.

Regarding the wpForo itself.
wpForo is known as the best supported WordPress plugin, you can see that in the plugin reviews and in the support community.

No question there are some posts on their site sighting people being happy with it, however I did a google search for "the best supported WordPress plugin" as you claim and did not find them listed here
It's hard to find reliable feedback as there are so many opinions on support or lack there of.
But I believe my first question was about their converter tool and the lack of support for it, not wpForo.

@gConverter Just curious are you a spokes person for wpforo?
wpForo is our partner, and we do lots of migration work to wpForo. Our devs work together to build new migration scripts and get the latest changes from wpForo, it's very important in forum migration services. Currently, the most popular migrations are to:
  1. Any forum to bbPress
  2. Any Forum to wpForo
  3. Any Form to XenForo
  4. Any Forum to phpBB

Today, WordPress has 55,000 plugins, so the forum plugins are out of the most used plugins. Only bbPress is included because it's developed by WordPress team. I don't think this article can be related to the forum world of the WordPress. It's better to read this one:
