Russ, sorry about my post. I do appreciate a constructive feedback.

I was harsh and this really was not my intention. The complain of users maybe wasn't a theme issue (i have a lot of old mobile devices using my platform), they complain about everything.

I do love my theme, use since my first XF installation, but considering all you talking about, i see no point to abandon then.

I think is time to change the initial page a little bit, COVID-19 information is not so much important right now and maybe is time to move to another place. Do you have any tips on how i can use this COVID-19 frames/widgets in some other area? Or maybe a completely new page just for then?

I didn't take it as harsh, so no worries there. I'd personally move all COVID stuff to its own custom node page and link to it in the main menu. If folks want to see it, they can. Right now you're making users scroll through all of that and if it shows on mobile they'd have to scroll for 2 minutes to get to your actual forum content :D.

Additionally, you can use the default XF fonts so it's not loading the google fonts(Style properties -> Typography). After that's done if you want to submit a support ticket on my site I can take a look and advise anything else I might see. Best of luck with it all.

I upgraded xf 2.1.5 to xf 2.2 on my test site yesterday which is basically clean and had nothing but trouble, reams of errors due to missing files with the AC update. After 4 attempts and 6 hours it finally worked. Not sure I will update the live site which has more to f up than the test site.
Well I nervously bit the bullet today and upgraded my live site. In 15 minutes my nervousness was unfounded as all upgraded without any issues. PHEW  Still no idea why the test site had problems but I'm glad the live site worked out well

I've only just seen the "preview" article layout on the HYS forum:

It looks really nice, certainly blurs the lines between a blog and a forum.

Updating to 2.2 broke my custom theme (from TH) display completely. Even after updating all TH addons and themes everything appears like the CSS is entirely turned off. I guess I will have to stick to my 2.1 for now.

Just download everything to set up a test site.
Is this the correct way - test site, disable all addons and then update to 2.2, or just take the plunge and update without disabling any addons?

How have people found it with 2.1 addons on 2.2?

Definitely disable the add-ons first, otherwise you may have to manually disable all of them through the config.php file as you may find your forum "broken" and you'll be effectively locked out of the admin CP.

I think a few simple 2.1 add-ons just worked on 2.2 as well. But the add-on documentation on the resource manager should state whether the add-on is compatible with 2.2 or not.

I think all the add-ons and styles that were important to me have been upgraded to cope with 2.2.

It broke mine too, but I think upgrading the base style helped with that alot.

I've been able to upgrade with the help from TH's support as it required some style tweaking. Still messed up my custom attachment icons set, but they say it will be fixed soon.

Those guys are usually really on top of things like that. :) At least it sounds it was largely fixed for you!

For me 2.2.1 is ok. This last update solved also a problem with lihhtbox, using external storage attachments addon + CDN configuration in config.php.
So, no problems.
Generally you have only to see/wait for addons and styles to be "certified" by devolepers to run with 2.2
