You included IPS Downloads, but not XF Resource Manager?
Basic - Forums, Pages and downloads are included with XenForo - $160.00.
Downloads are free without the use of XF Resource Manager from any post with attachments. And still there is the cost difference of $35.00.
Not sure what you're trying to compare, since you picked random things for IPS and left the equivalents out for XF.
Basic cost difference, but I'm guessing you choose to ignore the difference which is fine with me. Not everyone has deep pockets but at 13 forum licenses the cost of equivalent IPS is prohibitive.

I think I'm either unaware of the difference or misunderstanding you.

IPS also allows attachments on posts + the downloading of said attachments?

At present I'm only paying renewal for invision core and pages. So I'm paying 40 bucks per year. And now for the same money I receive their mobile app.

XenForo extension is $55.00 for 12 months, IPS extensions is $100.00 for 12 months.
Easy to see why people go with XenForo.

Lol. Easy to see what you re trying to do.

I don't see how you can include IPS Downloads but not XF Resource Manager, and then go and try and say XF attachment system is the equivelant of IPS Downloads.
Because they are not the same. Downloads is not a Resource Manager and in either case attachments can be downloaded. What's not to understand? Or do you just want to argue semantics?

I want to argue semantics.

The base IPS forum that you can purchase also has attachments so why would you try and compare IPS Downloads to Xenforo attachments? Resource Manager and IPS Downloads are pretty much the same and used for similar concepts, unlike IPS downloads and the attachment system in XF.

Also yes, Downloads is a resource manager and is used just as that by IP themselves.

From an end-user perspective, using both platforms over the years, I just prefer how XF feels overall in regards to the way it functions.

From purely a business-related style development aspect, I'd want to purchase every app to make sure the styles work well with everything. So buying everything IPS offers for me would run $625 @ $210 yearly renewal. With XF since there aren't as many first-party extras, I'd only need RM + Gallery so total price: $290 with a yearly renewal of $85.

But in the end discussions like this never really turn out well. It's comparable to Xbox/Playstation, Windows/Mac, and Apple/Android arguments. Really comes down to what you feel is best for your community and what you like.

Good points, russ, but maybe consider changing the color of your username/usergroup. It's almost unreadable on the dark style. :)

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.... loyalty paid. It got you a clock at retirement instead of a cardboard box at the door with all your stuff. It sometimes even got you free things and discounts.

Those day are long gone, loyalty to a brand is pointless. Buy and use whatever fits your needs now and always be prepared to look over the fence where the grass is greener... until the next renewal/update of course :)

1.- I went with xenForo instead of IPS for my small business website as it was cheaper solution.
2.- I went with IPS instead of xenForo for my large video community as it was the best solution. eg Advanced Clubs and Video Gallery simple does not exist for XenForo. And don't say me that there are 2 Clubs mods for xF as it will be for laugh. They don't have even 10% of the features that IPS Clubs have.

Consolidation: Nobody goes with the Brand. Webmasters (must) go according to their special needs and of course according to their budget.
Do you find it easy to maintain 2 forums with different software?
I'm pretty sure that I could not do that, but then again I'm nearly as old as Joe Biden

I currently own or admin forums on five different forum platforms and I'd say it's generally fairly easy to switch from one to another. Once you are familiar with one product it's comparatively easy to learn a second.

The only real issue I've encountered is where a developer has taken a completely different approach to a particular function. Having to rethink your approach to a process you've become very familiar with can be a bit of challenge sometimes.

I don't think so.
We're providing professional forum migration services since 2010, and I see the number of migrations from other forums to XenForo is going down since 2018. The highest point of XenForo was from 2014-2016. I think the reason of decreasing migrations to XenForo was increasing the popularity of IPB, Discours, Flarum and WordPress forums like wpForo and bbPress. BTW, the 2016 was very popular year for Joomla Kunena forum too. So the forum solutions (plugins) for CMS's changed the forum market. And it's not correct to say people are going from IPB to XenForo, this is not truth. But the XenForo is still very popular for sure.

My company's "to" Xenforo migrations are busier than ever, and IPS to XF inquiries have spiked since recent XF 2.2 feature announcements. I don't purport to speak for the entire sphere of where forum migration trends are going or have been, no one can based on only their company's numbers.

I wonder how IPS 4.4 and 4.5 have affected XF to IPS conversions.

I mean, that's sort of a silly statement. Are you saying no one is converting from IPS to XF and you know this first hand even outside of the bubble of your own business?
