...major sports events canceled, masses begin WFH, perhaps major brands will shift some % of their ad strategy to online?

not likely -- no sense to advertise to people that wont leave the house to buy their product.... Amazon & Walmart might step up

I agree with Joeychgo. This pandemic is already having a massive negative impact on all types of businesses and it's going to get a lot worse before there's any recovery. I'd say advertising budgets will be the first to be cut and that will have a knock-on effect that may even hurt some of us here.

Face mask firm stock must be going up a lot. Those ads will likely do well.

Health based forums must be doing good.
Depends on the health topic.

My forum is health related. Most of it dedicated to one type (WLS). But I do have a Non-Surgery Medical. And we had a new thread posted there today....it’s staying focused. No hysteria type posts, just the be careful, be aware type. But then most of my regulars are level headed. And we have a history of requiring solid research, not speculation on all health related items.

YouTube is demonetizing all content related to the virus unless you're a "reliable source". It's unknown (to me) if Google will implement something similar with Adsense, I doubt it.

Thats for sure.

Not really.

You think Google will do something? Wishfull thinking.

You do realize that Google owns YouTube? So they are doing "something". It's probably an excuse to benefit corporate media channels, it *could happen the same with AdSense.

OP here, just to elaborate on my own initial post, I guess I was thinking that if I'm a company like, say, Nike or Ford, maybe I have an ad budget that looks something like this:
60% broadcast
30% venues, billboards, event sponsorship
10% online

Maybe I'd switch it to 60/10/30, respectively.

YouTube wants to curb the spread of misinformation. There have been a few pieces which have triggered serious panic and hoarding in some areas leaving other deprived and even recommending folk medicine over competent medical professionals.

Some people in the tech industry have been inflicted with the virus, and sadly, even fallen into comas of which they're yet to awaken, so these companies are very nervous and itchy about this virus. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to screen misinformation at scale, especially if you yourself may not know all the facts.

I'm not really fond of the precedent this sets either, although it isn't one they set just now, they've been doing a fair bit of censorship and demonetisation for a number of things for a while.

maybe depends on thread content? it would be really bad if online communities were penalized for being a place to talk about this. But, if a site is purporting to be an authority and is giving bad/dubious info (hard to police), the policy may make sense. Hmm, I will go ahead and suppress ads in the one thread I have on the issue.

I had two major private ad contracts that were coming due. They aren't renewing right now, I'm down over 15k in revenue from those two contracts alone.

March is always a slow month for us but I don't remember our revenue ever being this low.

Anyone else been getting face mask ads? I'm pretty sure they're coming from Adsense. Strange when doctors can't even get them.

That sounds good.

Noticed any spike in traffic?

Yes the forums seems to be increased in traffic along with blogs. But not a lot of earning for me.
