I just realised on the iPhone you can get stats on your notifications. I’ve had what I would consider a pretty quiet week this week, yet I’ve still averaged about 100 notifications a day.

Noticeably missing is Pushover, which I use for XenForo 1 notifications on a few site, but I’ve not been posting much this week.

Shame I can’t see stats for specific weeks of the year. There would be some insane numbers.

What are your stats?

I don't use an iPhone and I don't have notifications switched on for anything on my phone. It's a smartphone, but I don't actually use it for anything other than calls and texts.

*Ahem*

Here's mine:

I'm using iOS 13 which is the only reason I can account for mine looking different. I don't have a "Last 7 days" option, only the last calendar week. But that does mean:

Shame I can’t see stats for specific weeks of the year. There would be some insane numbers.

You can actually do that in iOS 13 it seems.

I would probably have a considerable number more of additional notifications but I do tend to tweak settings so I don't get bombarded with too much.

And, I guess people may ask, I have 5 alarms set a day for various things and I press the snooze button A LOT hence the "Clock" app being the third popular app.

Also in the list with fewer than 15 notifications each:

News
YouTube
WhatsApp
8 Ball Pool
Amazon
Messenger
LinkedIn
Netflix
Maps
Google Photos

I don't get any notifications on my smartphone, I prefer the phone be a tool, not digital handcuffs.

Side note, iOS 13 Beta 4 is extremely buggy in the XF1.5 editor and some form fields. Can’t paste anything. Beta 5 not available for me yet :(

I keep almost all notifications disabled, group the remaining for non-busy periods outside nighttime so as to not get distracted all the time like I'm on permanent 24/7 standby. As for websites like forums and social networks, I only use them within a browser. This also neutralizes covert gathering and abuse of system permissions.

These apps might be free but paying with user data and constant attention is an unacceptable alternative to directly asking for money. Mobiles have made people too easily reachable and both websites and apps are abusing this landscape change.

All are disabled except for gmail / wattsapp etc. They are allowed only to signal chats or calls, not all kinds of crap notifications they'd want to send.

I think the rich notifcations with Nest is one of the best advantages that Nest has over ring. You can force touch the notification to get a gif preview of the scene to see it it's worth your time to load the full clip. Helps immensely with managing the notifcations.

I tested a Ring cam last week and found the lack of this feature really annoying after a while, especially if the clip took a long time to load. I can check each nest notification in a couple of seconds.

Ohh, that's nearly tempted me to upgrade to the beta to test it out. Think I might hold off another couple of weeks though as it seems it's still pretty buggy from what I've been reading.

I uninstalled Chrome and YouTube on my phone. I disabled all notifications. Texts have a single buzz but are otherwise silent. Though often times it's no buzz no ringtone no tone. All audible and buzz feedback from typing the on screen keyboard is disabled.
