I've used IPB before, and was excited to purchase it. A week later, not really happy with it since you can't even it's really lacking in both features and community.

Luckily I didn't buy it from them, but rather from someone else, so I didn't end up paying the full amount, but I just feel cheated in a way.

Can you explain in more detail why you feel cheated? Curious as to what features you feel are lacking.

First thing first what did you buy (forum, blogs, shop, downloads, gallery etc) and what version are you using.

Well, the lack of community feel for one, you can't have paid subscriptions without paying for them, lack of functionality it looks like.

Just Forums. I didn't think you needed Commerce to do paid subscriptions, and I bought it off someone.

Subscriptions requires their commerce package... where many of the other scripts have it rolled into the core forum. AFAIK IPS/IPB has always been like that.
You will find some other add-ons are also dependent on the Commerce package, even if you are not doing any transactional processing.

I now see that and I would have at least thought something such as that would have remained in core.

I don't think majority of forums would use that feature but that's just IMO.

Subscriptions has never been a part of core it has always been a part of Commerce (previously called Nexus). It is not a core feature as it requires items that are only available in the Commerce application (payment gateways etc). If you purchased the license you can always upgrade and add the feature to be able to use it now.

I'm sorry you feel gypped however had you reached out to IPS directly they would have been happy to help you purchase the package that was right for you.

What bothers me about Commerce is the following. You need it for subscriptions i can life with that, but for many owners it’s expensive. So to recoup some of the money you want to do more so the package needs to be more then it is now. Meaning that you’ll need to be able to setup mini stores like clubs where money comes to the owner (site) and do payouts to the sellers.

They need to do some SERIOUS work on the Commerce package. I've mentioned this numerous times before, but it's readily apparently that it was originally intended for their (IPS) use and was just tweaked somewhat to make it an additional add-on for them to have some income on.

Honestly... how many purchasers of this will be selling domains or server setups (which is a hardcoded "option" of the package).

That's what I'm talking about, but even more so than that. It seems like the newest version of IPB is nothing but a bunch of fluff. Someone said they include clubs in the forum part whereas you would have to pay for that on another forum, but how many people are gonna choose that over the ability to make money for their forum? And quite honestly the community is seemingly worse with nothing but paid mods even worse then the XF forums.

I haven't got the commerce system only played with it in the demo but what commerce is now its really under preforming what it can be. But until we continue lets get Matt M in and make him aware of this thread, maybe when he sees good information he can take it to the table. I have no clue when you have commerce in IPS you can do the following. Lets say i have everything from IPS, i want to deal with images so i list them in IP.Gallery and someone wants to buy that image can that be done for example. Meaning i have three types of that image small, medium and large people select image they want and pay IP.Commerce then handles the rest of payment paperwork etc.. The same thing goes for IP.Downloads for example.

Why would you hardcode option that makes no sense at all.

Just because they offer hosting and domain options in Commerce doesn't mean you're not able to benefit or use the other options in Commerce. They also have subscriptions, products, coupons, shipping, tax classes, support departments, invoicing, and integration with third party services for mailing and fraud.

Like any other software, there's a bunch of stuff that you use and a bunch of stuff that you don't use.

It's integrated with Downloads for digital files and Commerce for physical files. It would be great if they could somehow integrate into gallery.

There are at least two Classifieds systems in the Markerplace for regular peer to peer selling as well, where Commerce handles all payments, invoicing, and payouts.

Lol I wouldn't go so far with that, I use plenty of the options in XF and vB. IPB has fluff.

If theres one thing IPS misses that XF has and thats the bulk administration tool. Would make things so much easier.
