It seems like dungeons and dragons,LOTR or Elder scrolls fans writing heavy metal

I know, it's why I thought of them.

Nightwish too does the fantasy thing (even to the point of writing songs directly based on fantasy works, e.g. Edema Ruh, from Endless Forms Most Beautiful, which is based on Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind) but they go for symphonic metal rather than power metal.
