A non-tech savy college friend is looking to launch a site for one of the clubs she belongs to (college tv station). She already has the domain and I set it up on my server and I was thinking it would be nice if I could take it a step further and install some thing to which she could add news and perhaps articles and expand upon it as their needs develop.
I was thinking that a nuke varient might be good since it has plenty of modules but I heard that mambo may have a better way of entering news for 'newbs'. I dont see how it would hurt to put up a copy of phpbb, so I am also wondering which would intergrate with it better. |

Mambo is great. The image library and story editor work very well. It looks great out of the box as well.
As for forum integration, don't get too excited. MamboVB seems to have stalled. But you might find a couple light-weight forums as Mambo Components. I'm moving OFF of a nuke/phpbb combo onto vB/vBPortal. I'm not crazy about vBPortal, but it's the best thing I found so far to go along with vB. Also, see this thread: http://www.theadminzone.com/forums/s...ead.php?t=1814

Mambo is definitely a good choice.
Another great choice would be drupal ![]() Both mambo and drupal have integrated forums (via addon/module) if you don't want to worry about using diff software for each section of the site. As for integrating into an existing forum like phpbb, etc I'm not sure if they can do that right now (mambo has a one for vb though) |

Moparx, drupal looks very interesting, I hadn't heard of it before. MamboVB (to which I believe you were referring) was promising, but seems to have stalled/disappeared...
Phoenix, assuming your friend doesn't need a heavy-duty forum (use the "native forum" or a forum module instead), I believe either Mambo or Drupal would work very well.

Xoops is pretty good and very easy to install. It is also pretty customizable.. Its not nearly as big a Nuke ( mambo or drupal i am not sure of )
You can see a default install of zoops here: http://deve.dogpatchdown.com/ Or a customized one here: http://www.freemasonry.pe.ca

phoenixdown I'm a member of a 'try it before you buy it' thought group and lucky for you there is a web site available which practices this theory for Content Management Systems.
Hop on over to www.opensourcecms.com and try them all out before you decide which one is best for your good friend's prospects
