What is the best 'shout box'?

I used to use SayBox, which is remotely hosted and can be both free and paid. I used the free version and it was quite nice, you could customize it, skin it, moderate it, download all shuts, banning and registering accounts: there's a list of features here. I don't know if they've changed anything to it, as I stopped using it as in your CMS there's already a chatterbox built in it but I can definitely say it was good

I just installed the one cookie monster suggested yesterday and it works great! It's weird that I installed it and now it's on this thread. Great little shoutbox tho.

Personally I think a shoutbox on a brand new forum detracts from the purpose of the forum.

I understand what you are saying Afterglow, but it's a very well established board (well over 2 years)... Otherwise I'd agree.

I've used a modified Ajax Shoutbox. I don't like the default bulky look of it all.

I've integrated a shoutbox called "SmileTag" - but unfortunately, the main site (http://www.smiletag.com) is down since a few weeks now - I am afraid that project is dead... Did a few modifications to have it integrate with phpBB, though.

Very cool! I installed the one cookie monster suggested and it looks ok...our group loves chat...maybe I should have looked for a chat box you can embed into your page versus a 'shout' box.
