Hello,
I recently purchased the on-line forum www.xmarksthescot.com. It was my hope that my local admin would be able to help me in the early stages of taking over this forum but he has had to drop out due to a job change. I am in serious need of a vBulletin admin person. This would be a paid position for the right person. Let me outline my requirements and you can respond if you think this is the sort of job you can handle. I am not a programmer. I make Kilts. The site I own runs the vBulletin Software package. (version 3.8.1 patch level1) The person I need must be intimately familiar with the capabilities and idiosyncrasies of vBulletin. I do not need a day-to-day forum manager. I need a programmer who would be willing to be available on-call for software updates, be capable of making graphic and format changes to the site at my direction, and be capable of programming in such a way that a non-programmer can handle day-to-day tasks such as updating the advertisers. I also need an assessment of the current status of the site. Prior to my purchasing the site a different programmer made some changes to the site which seem to be causing some conflicts. The site is also using far too much bandwidth due to some of these changes. The assessment would include recommendations for possible changes. The programmer would need to be capable and willing to teach me just enough code so that I can speak intelligently enough with him so we do not spend 100's of emails back and forth trying to understand each other. If you take a look at the site. www.xmarksthescot.com you will see that we accept paid advertisements. But this is not a money making program. We only recover from our advertisers enough to pay the bills and keep the site running. All payments are made via PayPal subscription and are not a part of the code of the site in the sense of embedded pay-per-click or subscriptions. In essence the advertising you see on the site is nothing more than graphics of the advertisers logo with an embedded link back to the advertisers website. I would like to develop three different "levels" of advertising. These levels would allow small companies to advertise at a lower rate with a smaller ad and larger companies to have large ads. This advertising plan is the most important of my requirements as I have quite a few potential new advertisers waiting in the wings. One other requirement I would like is the ability to talk to my programmer. I use Skype quite a bit and found it a good way to conduct face-to-face talks when new or difficult topics need clarity. But I would prefer if my programmer were in N. America or the UK. I think you can understand this as we are talking here about a contract where money will be paid. I am uncomfortable starting this sort of contract with someone who I cannot speak directly with and with whom I have at least a culturally similar language base. I also need to feel that I am handing the passwords of my site over to someone with whom I can develop a high level of trust. If this is the sort of job you think you would be interested in I can send you more details. Please respond with your hourly rate and a discription of your experience with vBulletin. As I would like to meet the person who I would hand over the password to my site my preferred method of hiring would be via Skype with video. I be contacted via Skype at Freedom Kilts. My email address is steve@xmarksthescot.com |
