Twitter is more about quick interactions - I've had more great conversations on twitter than I've ever had on facebook. Rule of thumb though is if you're tweeting links to your site, always break it up with some actual real-person chatting otherwise the constant links just become white noise and get ignored.

That is good advice. I'll try and log into the ole Twitter account one of these days. The only reason I got it was to follow the Holy Father during Lent, and now that He doesn't Tweet anymore, I've not been using it except when FB posts to it.

I did start posting quotes and sayings that relate to my forum and I think that might do the trick.

Facebook brings in more traffic thanks to business fan pages. With engaging content and a generous sharing of posts, photos, etc., to fans and their network, word about the business almost easily spread, thus increasing traffic and leads.

I find this to be true, even if you aren't using your site's twitter account.

Facebook, but only after serious efforts towards it. Seems that you don't get much social traffic until you're already a big site.

I have been having tremendous success with Google+ lately. But I took a different approach with Google+ and it's actually working.

Instead of promoting my entire website, I made a Google+ page to promote a section of my website.

Basically, here is what I did. I have a section on my website dedicated to pretty girls. It's not porn or anything, so there's no issues at all promoting it. I made a Google+ page 3 days ago for the "pretty girls" section of my site. While it's only gotten 20 followers thus far (none of whom I know personally), these followers are really sharing my posts and using +1. They are also interacting with me about the site. I have seen a noticeable increase of traffic on my site because of this.

I just now purchased the FB app for my forum and am looking foward to actually putting my Forum on FB so it's in a nice convenience spot as well. I am sure this will bring in more traffic. Of course I've only had the forum for a little over 2 monthes.
Umm... there is a software to allow us putting our forum on the facebook page? Or do you mean the login with facebook plugin?

I have a really hard time to convert any of my Facebook page fans into forum members. They would like like like and comment on the wall posts which are pretty much links to forum topics, yet none bother to sign up on the forum to comment there...

Hi There Ram8349,

I know there's a software that allows us to put our forum on FB. I got it, just need to wade through the many pages to get the API key.

Some of my friend have become forum members.

It's my FB page I am talking about. I'm not sure what the software will do once I get it working.

To be able to identify which social networking site brings you more traffic depends on where most of your target audience is. But I would have to say Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest are good sites.

Just a quick update. About 3 weeks ago I made a Google+ page for one section of my website. I did not advertise it at all. I didn't tell my friends about it either. I wanted to see how the page would do without any fanfare whatsoever.

As of a few minutes ago I have exactly 400 followers for my Google+ page. They interact with me quite a bit and even share stuff with me.

However, I noticed that none of these people were joining my site. They were reading what I was talking about, but they were not joining the site. So I conducted an experiment. I made it so that guests could not view that area of my site.

On Google+ I explained that the reason I made those areas "members only" was to save bandwith. (This is partly true, as that area gets hotlinked somewhat).

I got no complaints from my followers on Google+, and ever time I post a new article I just keep getting more an more members on my site.

But I also don't just post links to my site on Google+. I take the time to chat with people, and post remarks on what they are posting about.
