I know we're all proud, but let's be professionals here. I've noticed a few posts where a question is asked and answered, then someone comes along and says, "I do that too", like I'm so cool, I knew too. Well if you're doing that great, but if you can't expound on the previous post, there really no useful infomation added. Posts like this tend to move the thread past the actual useful information.

But seriously. I do try to share my experience(s) with that topic. It doesn't have to mean something to one person, but it might to the other. Participating in a discussion does show that you have read it and can agree or not on the topic or posts from users. I don't mind reading that more then 1 user has an issue or positive experience with something. Because the firstpost has already answered or contributed to the topic doesn't have to mean others aren't welcome.
If a forum doesn't want finished topics to continue, the staff should just in. Or the topic starter should/could request it to be closed. 50% .. I agree with you. Because I think I understand what you mean. But for 50% I have to be careful and disagree with you on some points. |

Hmmmm....not sure I agree with you totally. I don't see that tone at all in the communities replies. A community is a place with many voices. Sometimes, for the sake of support and encouragement...even when an "answer" is not forthcoming, a reply is nice.
I don't know how you moderate things in your community, but in mine I like to encourage the community friendships...in all posts. I haven't seen anyone here that just posts "yeah, me too" on a regular basis. Friendly, welcoming websites breed friendly welcoming community participants. ![]() Be nice!

Howdy from Texas,
Our board's TOS prohibits meta-discussions such as "me, too!" posts but we don't always have the time to remove them. I haven't searched for it yet, but I wonder if there's a hack which will allow a user's posting count to increase only if x number of words are in the post... like, say, a ten-word response in order to qualify as a counted post. A short post would still appear, but wouldn't raise the poster's total count. Suppose I should go looking for that hack...

unusual for me, but sometimes, I dont have anythign additional to add, and just want to chime in, so the person asking the original question finds out exactly how many peopel agree or disagree with them.. nothign is lonlier than seeing no replies or only 1 reply to your post - I'd rather see 10 "me too's!" than nothing when I post something

Just posting yeah cool, or I agree just flags a new post and wastes everyones time reading it while adding nothing new to the experience. I'm not running a board to boost my members egos by making sure they get a reply. A no reply usually means most agree. As we know, when someone is wrong the community will usually point it out quickly. |

We have a :yeahthat smiley, which looks like this:
![]() People frequently use it as the only thing in their post, if they agree with the above. |

# of Replies is sometimes used as a "gauge" to know how busy a thread is ... if the only thing that exists is ... "
" or "yeah" or "me too" ... How busy is the thread? To me, it's misleading (false advertisement - call it whatever). The best thing you can do for your members is to prevent this kind of posting.A response such as " " or "yeah" or "me too" doesn't help anyone. If the thread is hidden and only viewable to the thread starter and posters (posts created by poster only viewable by poster) than there is no problem. If the posts are found in the "lounge area" than there is no problem. Here's a few things I have done to prevent such posting ...
Keep in mind that these rules are in place to encourage members NOT to discourage |
